How to Extend, Cover, or Edit an AI-Generated Song

How to extend, cover, or edit an AI-generated song in GenSong: extend it in the same style, restyle it as a cover, replace one section, or reuse its voice.

To extend an AI-generated song in GenSong, open My Music and click Extend on a finished track; the extension uses the same model as the original and, by default, the same settings, so the style and vocals carry on. To restyle a song in another genre, use Cover song; to fix one part without regenerating the whole track, use Replace section; to reuse a song's voice or style in new songs, use Create persona. Extend, Cover song and Replace section are available on paid plans; the other tools work with credits on any plan. All of these tools work on songs in your GenSong library — they are not for uploading and reworking someone else's recording.

This guide explains what each editing tool does, where to find it, and which one to pick for the problem you have.

You need a GenSong account to generate or edit songs. New accounts get 10 free credits after sign-up, with no credit card required, which covers one song generation (two versions).

Which tools need a paid plan? Extend, Cover song and Replace section require an active subscription; on the free plan, opening them shows an upgrade prompt. Create persona, Remix, Add Vocals, Add Instrumental, the Vocal Remover, WAV, MIDI and Music Video work with credits on any plan.

How Do I Extend an Existing Song With AI While Keeping the Same Style and Vocals?

Extend continues a track you already made in GenSong. It is available on paid plans. Because it builds on the original song rather than starting over, it is the right tool when you like a song and simply want more of it — another verse, a bridge, or a longer outro.

Steps:

  1. Open My Music from the sidebar.
  2. Find a completed song and click Extend under it. (Tracks that are already extensions are labelled "Extended" and do not show the button.)
  3. Pick a mode:
    • Original — continues the song using its original settings. Choose this when you want the same style and vocals.
    • Custom — lets you set the Continue At point on a timeline and change the title, style, and lyrics for the new part.
  4. Check the credit cost shown in the dialog, then click Extend. The extended song appears in your library when it finishes.

Tips for keeping the same sound:

  • Stay in Original mode if consistency matters most. Changing the style text in Custom mode invites the model to drift.
  • In Custom mode, write lyrics that clearly continue the story, and use section tags such as [Verse 3] or [Bridge] so the model knows what part it is writing.
  • Set Continue At at a natural break — the end of a chorus or line — rather than mid-word.

Model note: an extension always uses the same model as the original track. If a song was made with an older model that is no longer offered, the dialog shows: "This model is discontinued. Create a V6 cover before extending this track." In that case, make a cover with a V6-family model first (see below), then extend the cover.

Can I Use AI to Turn My Own Song Into a Different Genre While Keeping the Melody?

Yes, if the song is in your GenSong library and you're on a paid plan. Cover song re-creates an existing GenSong track in a new style, starting from that song's audio. Use it for things like "this pop song as a slow acoustic version" or "the same track, but as 80s synthwave".

If "your own song" means a recording you made outside GenSong, the Cover tool is not built for that: it works on songs you generated in GenSong.

How closely a cover follows the original melody varies from run to run. Every generation returns two versions, so compare them and keep the one that stays closest to what you want.

Steps:

  1. Go to the Create workspace.
  2. In your song list, open the More (⋯) menu on a finished song and choose Cover song. You can also click a song to open Song details and use the Cover song button there.
  3. Choose a mode:
    • Simple — describe the new direction in plain words, e.g. "stripped-back acoustic version, warm male vocal, fingerpicked guitar".
    • Custom — set the title, style, and lyrics yourself, switch on Instrumental for a version without vocals, and optionally pick a persona.
  4. Pick a model. V6 Mini is available with credits; V6 and V6 Wild require a subscription.
  5. Confirm. The new versions appear in your song list.

How Do I Make an AI Cover of a Song in a Jazz, Rock, or Acoustic Style?

Use the same Cover song tool. The genre comes from your description or style text, so be specific about the instruments, tempo, and vocal you want:

Target styleExample style text
Jazzsmoky jazz ballad, brushed drums, upright bass, piano trio, breathy female vocal, slow swing
Rockdriving alternative rock, distorted guitars, live drums, gritty male vocal, 140 bpm
Acousticintimate acoustic folk, fingerpicked guitar, soft harmonies, no drums

One important limit: Cover is for restyling your own GenSong songs. It is not a way to make an AI version of a commercially released song by another artist. Covering someone else's copyrighted song involves rights that an AI tool cannot grant you, and that is not what this feature is for.

Can I Fix One Part of an AI Song Without Regenerating It?

Yes, on a paid plan. Replace section regenerates a chosen time range of a song while the rest stays as it was. Use it when a song is nearly right but one line is mispronounced, a chorus falls flat, or you want a different instrumental break.

Steps:

  1. In the Create workspace, open the More (⋯) menu on a finished song (or open Song details) and choose Replace section.
  2. Drag the range selector over the part you want to change. The section must be at least 10 seconds long and no longer than half the song.
  3. Describe what should go there — for example, "an energetic guitar solo with rising intensity" or new lyrics for that line.
  4. Adjust the style and title if needed. Under Advanced, you can add negative tags (styles to avoid) and paste the full lyrics so the model understands the context.
  5. Confirm. The results appear as new songs in your list, so you can compare them with the original.

Tip: select a little more than the problem spot, from the start of a line or bar to the end of one, so the new part joins the rest of the song smoothly.

How Do I Reuse a Song's Voice or Style in New Songs?

Create persona saves the character of a song so you can use it again. This helps when you are making several songs for one project and want them to sound like the same artist.

Steps:

  1. In the Create workspace, open the More (⋯) menu on a finished song (or Song details) and choose Create persona.
  2. Choose a 10–30 second sample of the song where the voice or style is clear.
  3. Give the persona a name and describe its vocal characteristics.
  4. When you create a new song in Custom mode, open the Persona selector and pick it. You can apply it as a Style or a Voice persona. Personas can also be selected in Custom mode when making a cover.

Each song can be used to create one persona.

What Do Remix, Add Vocals, and Add Instrumental Do?

These three tools are listed in the sidebar. Each one asks you to choose a source song from My Music, costs 10 credits per request, and returns up to two versions that appear in My Music.

  • Remix — reworks one of your songs with a new style and fresh lyrics, which you write. Use it when you want a new take on the song, not a faithful continuation.
  • Add Vocals — turns an instrumental track into a complete song with AI vocals. You provide the lyrics and describe the vocal style.
  • Add Instrumental — builds a full arrangement around an existing vocal or a sparse track. You describe the instrumental style you want.

Remix vs. Cover: both change a song's style. Cover is the one to try first when you want the same song in a different genre; Remix is for a broader rework with new lyrics.

How Do I Get Stems, WAV, MIDI, or a Music Video?

These export tools don't change the song itself, but they help when you need to edit it further in other software.

ExportWhereCreditsOutput
Vocals + instrumentalVocal Remover10MP3 files
Multi-stem separationVocal Remover50MP3 files
WAVCreate workspace, song menu or Song details2WAV file
MIDIVocal Remover page, after a multi-stem split2.mid file
Music videoMusic Video Generator2MP4 file

Regular song downloads are MP3 and, like WAV, require a paid plan. The two-track split is useful for karaoke versions or for re-recording vocals yourself. The multi-stem split gives you separate instrument parts to mix in a DAW, and it is also the step that unlocks MIDI export, which lets you load the notes into a synth or notation program.

A Typical Editing Workflow

Here is how the tools fit together on a real project:

  1. Generate a song in Create or the AI Song Generator and pick the better of the two versions.
  2. Replace section on any line or passage that doesn't work.
  3. Extend from My Music if the song needs to be longer.
  4. Cover it if you want an alternate version, such as an acoustic take.
  5. Create persona from the version you like most, so later songs share its voice.
  6. Export stems, WAV, or MIDI for final mixing, or make a music video for sharing.

Credits are deducted for each run. Check the cost shown before confirming, and see pricing for plan details.

FAQ

Can I extend or cover a song I didn't make in GenSong?

No. Extend, Cover, Replace section, Persona, Remix, Add Vocals, Add Instrumental, and the vocal remover all work on songs in your GenSong library.

Why can't I extend an older song?

Extensions must use the same model as the original track. If that model has been discontinued, GenSong asks you to make a V6 cover of the song first and then extend the cover.

Does Replace section overwrite my original song?

The replaced versions appear as new songs in your list, so you can compare them with the original before deciding which to keep.

How long can a replaced section be?

At least 10 seconds and at most half the song's length.

Do I need a subscription to edit songs?

For Extend, Cover song and Replace section, yes: they require an active subscription. Create persona, Remix, Add Vocals, Add Instrumental, the Vocal Remover, WAV, MIDI and Music Video work with credits on any plan.

Which models can I use for covers and edits?

V6 Mini is available with credits. V6 and V6 Wild require a subscription. Extensions always use the same model as the original song.

Can I use edited songs commercially?

Paid plans include a commercial license for eligible songs; the free plan does not. Usage rights can depend on your plan and when a song was created, so check the current plan details and Terms before publishing or monetizing a song.
