Suno V6 vs V6 Mini vs V6 Wild: Which Model Should You Use?

Suno V6, V6 Mini and V6 Wild compared: what each model is for, which plans include them, prompt examples, and how to use V6 models without a Suno account.

Suno V6 comes in three models. V6 is the flagship: reliable and precise, the one to use when you know what you want. V6 Wild is built for exploration: less predictable, more genre-blending, good when you want surprising ideas. V6 Mini is the lighter, faster model and the only one available on free plans: good for quick drafts and trying many ideas. A practical workflow is to sketch ideas in V6 Mini, look for unexpected directions with V6 Wild, and make the final version with V6.

This guide compares the three models, explains what changed in V6, and shows prompt examples for each. It also covers how to use the V6 models in GenSong, an independent AI song generator that runs on Suno V6-family models.

What Is Suno V6?

V6 is Suno's newest generation of music models. Suno announced it on 9 September 2026 and moved its app entirely onto V6, retiring all earlier models (Suno release notes). Suno says V6 models are the first it released in partnership with artists and producers, including its partners WMG and BMG (Suno v6 FAQ).

Compared with earlier versions, Suno says V6 understands more of the language musicians use — vocals, instrumentation, structure, mood and references — so you can describe a complex idea in plain words. In Suno's own app, V6 also powers newer workflows such as editing one section with a plain-language instruction, changing a single lyric without regenerating the song, and creating from images, audio or video.

When Should You Use V6?

Use V6 when you already know the song you want and care about getting it right: a finished track for a video, a song with carefully written lyrics, or a specific genre with exact instrumentation. Suno describes it as reliable and precise, and as the model that "consistently delivers polished music" across genres and styles.

V6 rewards detailed prompts. Be specific about genre, era, tempo, instruments and vocal:

Style: warm 70s soul ballad, Rhodes piano,
tight live drums, bass guitar, horns on the chorus,
intimate male vocal with falsetto, 78 bpm

When Should You Use V6 Wild?

Use V6 Wild when you want ideas you would not have thought of yourself. Suno describes it as "less predictable and more varied", producing "unexpected, textured and ambitious results". It leans into genre-blending and results that move further from your prompt.

That makes V6 Wild a poor choice when you need exact control, and a good one when you are stuck or want a hook nobody else has. Try loose, image-like prompts and unusual combinations:

Style: dusty desert blues meets glitchy electronica,
distant choir, cinematic and lonely, slow build

Suno suggests using V6 Wild results as starting points to "riff on, build from or bring back into v6 for further refinement". In GenSong, you can do this by making a cover of a V6 Wild song with V6 (a subscription feature) or by copying the parts of its style text that worked into a new V6 prompt.

When Should You Use V6 Mini?

Use V6 Mini for speed and volume: testing whether a set of lyrics works as a song, comparing several genres for the same idea, or making everyday songs such as a quick birthday song. Suno calls it a lighter, faster variant, "ideal for quick ideas, high-volume generation, and exploring concepts before committing to a full generation".

V6 Mini is also the model you can use without a subscription, both on Suno and on GenSong. If you are new to AI music, start here: write a short prompt, listen to both versions, and adjust one thing at a time.

Prompt: an upbeat pop-punk song about missing
the last train home, female vocal,
catchy shout-along chorus

A Simple Workflow That Uses All Three

  1. Draft in V6 Mini. Try your lyrics or idea in two or three styles. Keep the version whose structure and melody you like.
  2. Explore in V6 Wild (optional). If the drafts feel predictable, run the same lyrics through V6 Wild with a looser style prompt and listen for a better hook, groove or texture.
  3. Finish in V6. Write a detailed style prompt that keeps what worked and generate the final song. Compare the two versions and keep the better one.
  4. Fix and finish. Use Replace section to redo a weak line, Extend to make the song longer, and export WAV or stems if you need to mix it elsewhere.

Can You Use Suno V6 Without a Suno Account?

Yes. Some independent services, including GenSong, run songs on Suno V6-family models through their own accounts and interfaces. GenSong is not affiliated with or endorsed by Suno, and you don't need a Suno account to use it. Your songs, credits and subscription are managed in GenSong, under GenSong's Terms.

GenSong offers all three V6 models in the AI Music Studio:

  • V6 Mini works with credits on any plan, including the free plan.
  • V6 and V6 Wild require an active GenSong subscription.
  • Every generation costs 10 credits and returns two versions, whichever model you choose.
  • New accounts get 10 free credits after sign-up, enough for one generation, with no credit card required.

GenSong does not include every feature of Suno's own app. Features such as Suno's Max Mode, Variety slider, Custom Models, mashups and video inputs belong to Suno's app; check GenSong's pricing and the controls below for what is available.

How to Pick a V6 Model in GenSong

  1. Open the AI Music Studio and sign in.
  2. Choose Simple mode (describe the song) or Custom mode (write your own lyrics, style and title), and choose vocals or Instrumental.
  3. Open the model selector and pick V6 Mini, V6 or V6 Wild. V6 and V6 Wild show a Pro badge because they need a subscription.
  4. Click generate. Two versions appear in your song list when they finish.

Prompt Tips for V6 Models

  • Describe the song like a musician would. Genre, era, tempo, key instruments, vocal type and mood work better than adjectives like "amazing" or "professional".
  • Use section tags in your lyrics. [Verse], [Pre-Chorus], [Chorus], [Bridge] and [Outro] help the model follow your structure. See how to turn your lyrics into a song for formatting examples.
  • Change one thing at a time. If a result is close, keep the same prompt and change only the tempo, the vocal or one instrument.
  • Say what you don't want. Use negative tags rather than writing "no drums" inside the style text.
  • Don't name real artists. Describe the sound instead ("breathy indie-folk female vocal, sparse acoustic guitar") so the result is original.

FAQ

Is Suno V6 better than V5.5?

Suno says V6 models are "faster, more expressive and higher quality" than its earlier models, with more control over the music. Opinions in the user community are mixed, and the best way to judge is to try the same lyrics on V6 and V6 Wild. Suno has retired all pre-V6 models in its app.

Is Suno V6 free?

On Suno, V6 Mini is available on all plans, including free; V6 and V6 Wild need a Pro or Premier subscription. On GenSong, V6 Mini works with credits on any plan, and V6 and V6 Wild need a GenSong subscription.

What is the difference between V6 and V6 Wild?

V6 is reliable and precise and follows your prompt closely. V6 Wild is less predictable: it blends genres and adds unexpected textures. Use V6 for final versions and V6 Wild for new ideas.

Does V6 Mini sound worse than V6?

V6 Mini is the lighter, faster model and is designed for quick ideas and high-volume generation. For a final version where details matter, V6 is the better choice. For drafts and everyday songs, V6 Mini is often enough.

How long can a Suno V6 song be?

Suno says all three V6 variants support up to 8 minutes per generation in its app. In GenSong's Custom mode, you can set an optional target duration from 10 to 360 seconds; you can also extend a finished song on a paid plan.

Can I use songs made with V6 commercially?

That depends on the service and your plan, not on the model. On GenSong, paid plans include a commercial license for eligible songs and the free plan does not. See Can you use AI-generated music commercially? and GenSong's plan details.

Can I extend a song I made with an older model?

In GenSong, an extension must use the same model as the original song. If that model is discontinued, make a V6 cover of the song first, then extend the cover.
